It is so good to take an out-of-town buyer house hunting. They give you a new appreciation for all we have in the Twin Cities. Last Saturday I picked up a buyer who lives in Virginia and is interviewing to teach and do research at the University of Minnesota. I met him at the Radisson on campus. The first thing he said was how great it was to have such a good company as Radisson Corp in Min and how he was enjoying his stay at the hotel. I told him the name Carlson is proudly held by many in the state. As we drove through the campus he had me stop at the new football stadium. We both were in awe of how it rose out of the round to surround thousands of fans as they cheered on the Gophers. As I was driving him to our first set of houses he shouted out, "Look!" I looked out the window and was not sure what was making him so excited. It turned out to be the people ice fishing on the lake. He said first things next winter he wanted to get his kids out there to do it. The catch-up game of hockey brought another smile to his face. He said, "Is it always like this here?" I said, "No, in the summer you would see boats and kids swimming?" It was 16 degrees and sunny and people were our running, walking, biking, and just being Minnesotan. He thought we looked like a movie set. The neighborhoods were clean. Houses were well kept and he found the school yards impressive. I could not find one thing to make this person not think that the Twin Cities were number one. I told him about a 21/2 dirve up to Duluth to see Lake Superior and explore the North Shore. He put that down in his notebook. I said the Twins would be playing soon and the St. Paul Saints were a riot to go to. He wanted to see the Guthrie that he had heard so much about. I showed him the musuems, art institutes, good places to eat, and our houses of worship. He continued to be amazed. It does take another set of eyes to once again show me how amaged I am by my Twin Cities.
