Thank goodness for all the tournament play in March. It gives us distraction from weather systems that seem more like winter than spring. It allows the media to talk about something rather than the economy. The sports bring together friends and families to share in the fun of the events. Small schools get to prove they are worthy and large schools demonstrate why they are large. You can go in person to these events or you can sit and watch them on TV. It does affect our economy as Minneapolis is host to some basketball games that will bring in teams and fans from outside our state. This March madness has no gender preference. The Gopher's women's hockey team has an excellent chance to go to the frozen four. Support them this Sat. by going to their game with Boston at the Ritter Arena. Get this, I have a two year old granddaughter that can't get enough hockey. She likes the girls best as their pony tails hang out from their helmets. She tells me the ice is slippery and the skaters need to be careful. She also tells me the goalie is scary. She can do all the victory dances of the skaters. Very soon we will see people at work glued to their screens watching basketball. That is much better than them watching the DOW on their computer screens. This March will bring us a change in the weather and a change from doom and gloom. No matter which teams wins it has to be better than the new we hear now.
