Jay Leno had a first last night, he had the sitting present of the United States on his late night talk show. To some that might seem amazing, but if you think about it the President was just doing a modern version of what President Lincoln did. President Lincoln was known to reach out to the people he served. It was the 1860's so he did it by standing on the White House lawn or by taking a train into communities to reach the public. He would get letters from mothers who sons were in the war, and he would personally reply to them. This President is just putting a modern spin on his message to the public. He is doing town meetings that then make the evening news, but most of all he is going to where his constituents go, the TV. His message appeared sincere and positive, but he also came across as very real. He spoke of his young daughters that were more impressed with the candy on Marine One than the ability to fly next to the Washington Monument. I had to laugh when he said his wife, Michelle, found it funny that an ambulance followed her husband around. Listening carefully I heard his message to Americans that we should buy and take steps to move forward if we can. He did not want us to be foolish, but he did want business to return to "normal". We do need to buy houses and dream our dreams. Under more careful mortgage guidelines houses are selling and new families are starting traditions in new neighborhoods. Today is the start of spring. That fact is hard to believe if you have been outside. Still, it is the start of spring and we should be planning what we will be doing in our gardens and what new meals we want to cook on the grill. Be an American and make your President proud. Bake an apple pie, eat a hot dog, and get ready for baseball to start. Spring is here and things are only going to get better.
