I remember in the mid 80's when phones became mobile. We called them a brick as they were that large. At least we no longer walked around with a suit case with a phone in it. Al of us coveted our cell numbers and would not let the number out. It was so expensive and we elected as to who would have the privilege to call us.
Fast forward 20 years and I give out my cell phone number more than my land line. My clients want to talk to me "now: and a returned phone call just won't do. There are some who feel this is not a good practice, but I say go with how the business goes. A person who drives up in front of one of my listings and want to talk to me about the property, is not willing to wait for a call back. They need information then. In fact they will call someone else to get it.
My clients will email me or call me and want the closing date, name of a moving company, or just a good pep talk now. That is why I no longer carry just a phone but a Blackberry. One can dig their heels in the sand and say it is not necessary, but that is one who is not servicing their people.
The land line is great when I need a clear reception or lots of information. I would never go without one as I often multi-task as I am on the phone. They both serve a role in my business and personal life. Need to reach me, call me on my cell 612.702.5694!
