Realtors used to be the source by which the public learned about houses for sale and the amenities to that property. That was then this is now. Today that same buyer goes to the internet to get that information. When I hold an open house and greet the buyer at the door, I no longer can say welcome to this three bedroom two bath rambler. They tell me they know all this as they have seen it on line. They know product. The question is, Do they know market knowledge?
This is where my job as a Realtor comes back into play. They might know about specific houses, but in most cases they do not understand current financing, market time for that specific neighborhood, how close to list price those properties are getting, trends in that market, and what the future holds for that neighborhood. Realtors do have the experience to assist the buyers with decision making. Knowledge is power.
I do believe we as Realtors need to instill trust with the public. Many buyers age 30 want to get the knowledge themselves and trust few. I do believe I have something to offer everyone and can be trusted. Open the door with a bit of information and I think the public will come back for more.
