I am not a golfer, but I am married to a sports junky. Charles will talk to me about anything that might resemble a sport. For weeks now I have been hearing about the golf tournament that was held in Chaska last week. The comment I heard the most was how Tiger Woods had this tournament won.
Many statistics were presented to me to prove this point. If he had the lead at the start of the tournament in 8 for 8 tournaments he won. He was playing great golf. He had his head on straight and he was not running away with the tournament, but he was showing he was Tiger Woods. Sunday the man proved all the statistics and all the planning we might do does not always give the outcome predicted. Tiger did not win the PGA. Three stokes defined him as the person in second place. I always joke with my husband that since he is a "drop out" from Stanford, he really needs the money. Life will easily go on for Tiger Woods. He will beat himself up for while and the statistics will tell a new story. What does this tell the rest of us?
It tells us that we can never take anything for granted. We can do all the right things and still the outcome is not what we wanted. Life has a way of taking the wheel of the car of life and steering us in a different direction. We must be flexible and be able to take that different turn. The champions are those who fall down and get up stronger. None of us want the road we are on right now, but we must be determined to take that wheel back and get on a course that is better for us all.
